We have a vibrant local climbing competition scene in Scotland. These competitions are run by individual climbing walls and cater for a range of ages and abilities across a variety of climbing disciplines.
Current Competitions include:
- Local Winter Bouldering Series: Most larger walls in Scotland run fun bouldering competitions throughout the winter months. These are mainly aimed at over 16yr olds and there are between 4 and 6 rounds in each wall’s series. They normally start in October.
- The Leading Ladder at Transition Extreme, Aberdeen: This consists of three rounds, each round being run on a drop-in basis over a three-week window, followed by a Final. The Rounds are self-scored and partner belayed and the top competitors are invited to the Final. It remains the only ‘open lead’ competition in Scotland and is suitable for all abilities.
- Charity events: fun climbing comps of various formats raising money for worthy causes.
- Dry Tooling: These competitions usually entail bouldering and top-roping routes using ice axes and are held indoors. They are organised in a similar manner to normal ‘rock climbing’ competitions with height gained giving an increasing number of points. There is an annual event at The Ice Factor in Kinlochleven and this is sometimes part of a larger Series: The British Tooling Series.
