Digital membership cards

Mountaineering Scotland introducing digital membership cards for individual members from May 2023...

Digital membership cards

This has been something we have been asked for by many members in the last few years and which we are now in a position to offer thanks to a recent upgrade to our membership system, JustGo.

As well as reducing our use of paper products, digital membership cards will also help us make cost savings in other areas, the biggest of which is postage, meaning that more of your membership subscription will go into supporting the work we do on behalf of all our members.

Members with Individual (adult or youth), Concession, ClimbScotland Gold or Mountain Training Candidate membership will be able to download a digital Mountaineering Scotland membership card to their Google or Apple wallet.

The digital ‘cards’ include details of your name, membership category, member ID and membership start and expiry dates. They also have a QR code which can be used to verify your membership status, for example, by member discount providers. All information downloads in real-time from JustGo, so it’s always up to date.

Any members who do not have an email address registered with us will still be sent a physical membership card automatically when they renew their membership, and members who still prefer a physical card can also request one free of charge (this will be reviewed annually).

How will I receive my digital membership card?

Existing members will receive an email with links to download their digital cards when they go live in the membership system, and new members will receive a similar email along with their membership and payment confirmation. Please note, you’ll need to be able to receive the emails to your smartphone and use Google or Apple wallet to download the cards.

I’m a parent with more than one child who is a member. Can I have both of their digital membership cards in my Google/Apple wallet?

Yes, you can hold more than one card in your wallet, you’ll just need to be able to access the automated digital membership card emails that come from JustGo on your smartphone.

I’m a club member – will I get a digital membership card?

We are rolling out digital membership cards to individual members only in the first instance to replace the physical cards currently issued. Members who are linked to a club but have purchased any of the individual membership categories (Individual youth/adult, Concession, Mountain Training Candidate or ClimbScotland Gold) will also be able to access the digital cards.

Club/Club direct adult, Club/Club direct youth and University club members are not currently issued with Mountaineering Scotland membership cards as clubs have previously stated a preference for producing their own cards, however we will be consulting with clubs to find out the digital card option would be a welcome addition for club members.

What happens if my membership expires?

As soon as your membership expires, your digital membership card will disappear from your Google/Apple wallet. You’ll need to renew your membership and download the card again to reinstate it.

I’ve accidentally removed my membership card from my digital wallet – what should I do?

No problem, just email us and we can resend you the details in an email from JustGo.
