Special access arrangements

Our access rights and responsibilities are laid down in the Land Reform (Scotland) Act 2003 and the associated Scottish Outdoor Access Code.

However in rare cases there are additional access opportunities, and in others there are limitations imposed by by-laws.

Details of those special cases can be seen in this section.

Strathfarrar road access

Mountaineering Scotland members can gain vehicle access to the private road along Strathfarrar, saving a very long walk-in. In winter, access along the 17 mile road is available to members via advance booking under arrangements we have negotiated with the estates.

Loch Lomond camping restrictions

Loch Lomond & The Trossachs National Park has introduced by-laws to supersede the access legislation relating to camping, which affects your right to camp in areas around the shores of Loch Lomond and other lochs in the National Park
