Mountaineering Scotland Mountain Leader Training Course

Mountaineering Scotland, in partnership with Richard Bentley from Mountain Motion, is offering club and individual members the opportunity to participate in a Summer Mountain Leader Training Course, at a special discounted rate. This MTS award is for members who are currently involved or keen to become involved in leading hill-walking parties in mountainous terrain in summer conditions. A two-day overnight camping expedition is part of this course.

Please note that in order to participate in this course you must have registered with Mountain Training Scotland prior to the start of the course.

Fitness level 4

Our most demanding courses and a very high level of fitness is required over many hours. Rough terrain and hostile conditions will be encountered.  

Max distance 15km, max ascent 1000m per day.

This is a six-day course in two three-day modules. Both modules are based at Mill Cottage, Feshiebridge

£335 per person     

To book onto one of our mountain safety courses, you need to be a member of Mountaineering Scotland and aged 18 or over. Thanks to your membership, we can subsidise the costs of our courses and offer you cheaper course prices than most commercial providers.

Booking conditions:

  • Advance booking only.
  • By booking a place on one of our courses, you are agreeing to our booking and cancellation conditions - please read them before you book.
  • Cancellations more than 4 weeks before the course date will incur a £10 admin fee per booking to cover admin costs.
  • If you cancel less than 4 weeks before a course date, we are unable to offer a refund or transfer unless we can find a replacement to take your place (£10 admin fee applies).
  • If you cancel less than 7 days before a course date, we are unable to offer a refund.
