Climbing instructor support for clubs

Mountaineering Scotland in partnership with AMI are excited to offer climbing instructor support to our affiliated clubs throughout Scotland. This support is available through direct request with each individual instructor and will be subject to their availability.

The session will aim to provide an introduction to outdoor Trad climbing aiming towards candidates becoming competent seconds, and will include the following:

  • Correct fitting and use of equipment including harnesses, tying in and belaying
  • Discuss guidebooks, crag and route selections
  • Demonstrating in a safe environment the art of anchor building and tying in and Trad equipment usage
  • Continue with the coaching of climbing movement, gear removal and racking
  • Discussing bottom rope systems and anchor selection

Please note: Support can be tailored to suit the needs of the club and its members. This must be discussed directly with the instructor prior to the booked session date.

The course will run on a maximum of six participants per instructor, and no minimum as this is a fixed rate course of £300 per day. All participants will be 18+.

This support is available to any registered and paid up member of a club affiliated to Mountaineering Scotland.

Each participant should be a competent indoor climber, with experience including belaying, tying-in and indoor lead climbing.
