Even if Mountaineering Scotland has no current volunteering opportunities that suit your skillset or needs, there are many other charities and organisations working in the outdoor sector which are looking for volunteers and might be an ideal fit for you.

Volunteer Cairngorms supports and develops volunteering for nature and the environment in the Cairngorms National Park.From bumblebee surveys to path buiulding and maintenance there is a huge range of volunteering opportunities in one of Scotland's most iconic landscapes.

Volunteering in the National Park is a fantastic way for you to get valuable experience, build skills and have fun.  National Park volunteers make a huge difference, working with a wide range of partners and taking part in practical conservation tasks or being out and about meeting and inspiring visitors as a Volunteer Ranger.

You can help us collect data to provide an annual indication of changes in plant abundance and diversity by signing up to the National Plant Monitoring Scheme.
Plantlife occasionally has opportunities for volunteers for current projects.For those wishing to pursue a career in conservation, this is valuable work experience and a good insight into the UK conservation sector.

Activities

Mountain Bothies Association

The Mountain Bothies Association maintains over 100 open bothies in the mountains and remote places. All their monitoring and maintenance work is carried out by volunteers, usually through organised work parties, which can require joinery skills, building abilities, DIY know-how, general labouring or even making tea for other volunteers.

Urban Uprising uses rock climbing to improve the physical, social and emotional wellbeing of 8 to 18 year olds who are experiencing disadvantage. They give young people the chance to experience the transformational personal change that climbing can bring.

Venture Trust

Venture Trust supports  people struggling with involvement in Scotland's criminal justice system, long term unemployment and mental health and wellbeing. They work with people to gain the life skills, stability and confidence needed to reach their potential. Through person-centred support in communities and experiential learning in the outdoors they challenge individuals to reflect on beliefs, attitudes and behaviours so they can unlock skills and learn new, more positive, ways of approaching situations.

Able 2 Adventure

Able 2 Adventure aim to deliver outdoor activities for people of all abilities that are inspiring, engaging, compassionate and supportive of everyone’s needs. We actively seek to increase opportunities to access adventurous activities through the provision of workshops, consultancy and partnership delivery. Able 2 Adventure strive to develop long term pathways into disability adventure sports through clubs and skills focused programs.
