Women’s Winter Climbing Course for Improvers

Friday 31st May 2024, 10:56am

We are excited to announce an amazing opportunity for eight female winter climbers who aspire to take their climbing to ‘the next level’.

The Scottish Mountaineering Club, Mountaineering Scotland and Glenmore Lodge have joined forces to create and host a training course at Glenmore Lodge. This training is supported and partially funded by the Scottish Mountaineering Trust.

The weekend is aimed at women who currently lead in winter at Grade 2/3, but want to improve their confidence and technical ability to take their climbing adventures to Grade 3/4 and beyond. This is also a unique opportunity to meet other female climbers and potential new climbing partners in a supportive and inclusive environment.

The weekend will be held at Glenmore Lodge the National Outdoor Centre for Scotland, near Aviemore, on the 21st to 23rd of February 2025.

The objective of the weekend is to provide an environment where women feel comfortable climbing in their own style; currently women are under-represented in Scottish winter climbing and this course is intended to break through barriers that are likely to be specific to women's lived experiences.

In October, we plan to have a question-and-answer session on Zoom for women to find out more about the course and whether it is the right training for them. We will provide information on how to apply at this time.

If you are interested in joining the Zoom session, please drop an e-mail to women@smc.org.uk
