Women in Adventure Sport Conference

Thursday 24th August 2017, 11:57am

Glenmore Lodge will host a conference for coaches and leaders in the world of adventure sport, aimed at supporting and enabling women’s participation.

Set for Friday 24th November 2017, the conference will focus on ways to support and develop more women coaches and leaders within the main disciplines of adventure sports (mountaineering, climbing, paddlesport, biking, snowsport etc). This will include the delivery, facilitation and participation of the associated national governing body awards, alongside the participation required to gain experience to partake in these awards.

Speakers at the conference will be women who have proven leadership, coaching and/or research experience, and who are passionate about supporting and inspiring others. All sessions will include group discussions, social chat and individual support.

The opening session will give a general update of the current landscape regarding participation and the conference will go on to explore practical ways coaches and leaders can ensure those around them feel appropriately supported.

It has been identified in many sports that having an appropriate mentor has a huge influence on coach and leader development. Conference presenters will facilitate small group discussion-based workshops for further sharing of experiences and recommendations on how participants can all be mentors and what they need to do.
