Welcome to our new website and logo

Mountaineering Scotland now has an exciting and distinctive new look to go with our new name.

You’re already on our new website, and we’re confident a look around will show you a brighter, clearer website with up-to-date information on all the topics you’ll need to know – and a much clearer and easy to understand navigation, so that you can find information logically and quickly.

Throughout the website, and increasingly in everything we do, you’ll see our brand new logo.

Consultation with members convinced us we needed to find a more modern, but still relevant, visual identity and, after a hotly contested competition we were able to develop our new logo.

The winning design was submitted by a design company called BluInc. Reasons for choosing it included:

  • Inspired by the silhouette of an iconic Scottish mountain, Buachaille Etive Mor, equally well-loved by walkers, climbers, and those who have never yet ventured onto its ridges, gullies and slopes, but remain in awe as they pass through Glencoe
  • Makes the connection between natural mountain and the angular form of Scotland’s climbing walls, evoking the varied playground of our members
  • Simple, eye-catching and distinctive, it represents our activities – walk, climb, ski – through vibrant evocative colours – while the royal blue of the core logo stands for our Scottish identity
  • Works well at a practical level for publishing purposes

Chris, the Creative Director at BluInc and a long-time hillwalker himself, explained: “We spent a long time considering how to pull together the broad spectrum of people, places and activities that Mountaineering Scotland represents and combine this in a visual identity that will be used in a hundred different ways.”

David Gibson commented: “We appreciated that finding a new logo was never going to be easy and that satisfying such a broad membership was a challenge. We were really pleased with the response to the competition and hope that members will relate to the final design and the reasons behind our choice. The design reflects our love and respect for Scotland’s mountains and the varied activities of the mountaineering community we represent.”

What next?

Members will see the new logo and visual identity being introduced via a phased approach over the next few months. You will also be able to get our new design beanie hats in time for Christmas!
