Timber!

Friday 25th May 2018, 1:54pm

Anyone heading out to the Ben Alder area this summer should be aware that there will be extensive logging work being carried out on the north side of Loch Ericht through until October.

Access will still be available for walkers wishing to access tops in the Ben Alder area, but care should be taken.

The forester for Ben Alder Estate has advised that timber felling and lorry movements will take place from 28th May until 22nd October. The main track along the north side of the loch from Dalwhinnie will be used by forestry lorries, although it will remain open to the public.

The Estate wishes to minimise disruption to members of the public and to the forestry operations and has asked that anyone using the paths in the area take note of any signs and follow the advice given.  The Estate has confirmed that the Forestry Commission guidance will be followed and that signs will specify the times when they are applicable.

The extraction route for the timber lorries will be using the Dalwhinnie level-crossing, which is also a popular parking spot for walkers taking to the hills. For safety and ease of access, the Estate has requested that the level-crossing area be kept free of parked cars from Monday to Friday during the felling period. Other parking places may be found in and around the village.

People should note that forestry harvesting vehicles are large and noisy and care needs to be taken when approaching them. The advice is to keep a safe distance and wait until the driver or banksman has seen you and waved you on.
