Police have appealed to walkers and motorists in Glen Shiel for sighting of a missing walker.

Roger Fletcher was believed to have set off to walk in the Dornie area about 8.30am on Sunday 5th June.

The 77-year-old MCofS and Grampian Club member had been staying at holiday accommodation at Bundalloch, and was understood to have headed out for a walk around the Camas-luinie or Bundalloch area. He failed to arrive at the point he was due to be picked up.

Police later received information that a man in his 70s or 80s was spotted on the main A87 road through Glen Shiel, about four miles west of Cluanie. The man was walking with two poles and was wearing outdoor clothing and was seen about 7pm on Sunday.

Kintail and RAF Mountain Rescue Teams, police officers, police and SARDA dogs, and lifeboat and Coastguard personnel have been involved in the search effort.

Speaking at the weekend, South Highland Area Commander Chief Inspector Brian Mackay said: “We are extremely concerned for Mr Fletcher’s welfare, as are his family and friends.

“Police and partners have been searching in the area we believe Roger intended to walk, but also extending the search towards the A87 and surrounding hills and woodland.”

And he asked anyone who was out walking in the area to report anything that could assist in the search by calling 101.

The chief inspector said: “We would also reiterate our appeal to anyone who lives or visits locally to check gardens, outbuilding and sheds.”

Police said he walks with a stoop and uses two walking poles to assist him. He has white hair and wears glasses. It understood he may have a small khaki-coloured rucksack with him.

It is understood some members of the Grampian Club will be assisting in search operations.
