With weather warnings across the whole of Scotland and Storm Bert due to cause havoc with snow, rain and high winds, the Board of Mountaineering Scotland took the decision to cancel the in-person AGM planned to take place on 23 November at Birnam Arts near Dunkeld and move it fully online with just 24 hours to go.
Previous experience of holding our AGM online stood us in good stead and the meeting ran smoothly, with 79 attendees and plenty of questions and engagement by members.
Our volunteer Board of Directors presented the 2023-24 annual report, highlighting some of the many achievements across all the pillars of our strategic plan, as well as some of the challenges. CEO Stuart Younie and Vice-Chair and Director for Snowsport Touring, Alistair Todd, provided members with an overview of the organisations financial situation and planning process, and the outcomes of the review of insurance which Alistair has led on this year.
The formal business of the AGM followed with votes on the approval of the minutes of the 2023 AGM, proposed increases to membership subscriptions and the election of Board members.
An inspiring end - Mountain Connections
To round off the online event, we were delighted to welcome mountaineer, writer and film maker Kevin Woods who gave a really inspiring talk about his life in the mountains and some of his past, present and future projects. From the inexperienced 16 year old summiting the Cobbler with his mate, Kevin has grown to develop a deep appreciation of Scotland’s mountains through his love of hill walking, running and climbing, the challenges he has set himself, and from the people he has met along the way. Perhaps now most well-known for his winter Munro round in 2020 and the film and book about the experience he has been touring around Scotland this year, his latest project is one for the real Scottish mountain connoisseur – a film about Sir Hugh Munro and the history of ‘the Munros’. We can’t wait to see it! In the meantime, you can see more of Kevin’s work through the links below:
