If you're a mountaineer in Scotland, chances are you'll already have heard of Mountaineering Scotland. We are the
only recognised representative organisation for hill walkers, climbers and
ski-tourers who live in Scotland or who enjoy Scotland’s mountains, and we provide training and information to mountain users to promote safety,
self-reliance and the enjoyment of our mountain environment. But there's so much else we do and so many reasons you should join. Have a look around our website to see more, but there are five very good reasons to join us right here on this page.
It can very easily cost £300 and upwards for a five-star waterproof jacket. But if you pay £30.50 for a standard Mountaineering Scotland annual membership then you get access to some great discounts - and that £300 jacket, with a 15% discount from, say, Cotswold, becomes £45 cheaper. You'll have made back the cost of your membership and still be quids in!
Through Mountaineering Scotland membership you have access to mountain huts and all their facilities in all the main mountain areas of Scotland. Being able to base yourself in good, mountaineering-friendly accommodation right beside the mountains is a real bonus.
If you’re headed for the Alps, membership of Mountaineering Scotland entitles you to purchase a reciprocal rights card from the BMC, giving discounts on many huts owned by European Alpine Clubs.
Your membership helps support the important conservation and access work Mountaineering Scotland does to stop uncontrolled development in the mountains and safeguard our excellent rights of responsible access.
Our quarterly magazine for members is full of great walking, climbing and mountaineering stories and pictures, and the news and views that matter to mountaineers in Scotland. It's free to members – and a reason to join all on its own.
