Are you a creative communicator who can turn great ideas into engaging stories, campaigns and content? Do you want your work to make a real difference for Scotland’s hill walkers, climbers and ski tourers?

Mountaineering Scotland is looking for a talented and proactive Communications and Digital Content Officer to join our Member Services and Communications team. We are the national organisation representing Scotland’s mountaineering community, supported by around 16,000 members and 130 affiliated clubs.

You’ll help raise our profile, grow and engage our membership, and connect people with the places and issues that matter. From shaping social media campaigns and producing website and email content to leading the editorial production of Scottish Mountaineer magazine and developing news stories, this is a varied role with plenty of scope for creativity.

We welcome applications from people of all backgrounds and particularly encourage applications from groups that are underrepresented in the outdoor sector.

  • Plan, create and evaluate engaging social media content and campaigns
  • Produce compelling content for our website, newsletters and email marketing
  • Lead the planning, commissioning, editing and production of Scottish Mountaineer magazine
  • Develop news stories and build positive relationships with staff, volunteers, partners and media
  • Use insights and performance data to improve communications
  • Ensure our content reflects our brand and commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion

You’ll bring professional experience in communications, PR, marketing or digital content, along with excellent writing, editing and proofreading skills. You’ll be confident using website content management systems and digital tools such as Mailchimp, Canva or Adobe Creative Suite.

You’ll also be organised, collaborative and comfortable managing a varied workload in a busy environment. An active interest in outdoor activities or mountaineering is important; knowledge of Mountaineering Scotland, editorial experience and familiarity with Google Analytics 4 and Google Ads would be welcome.

Mountaineering Scotland promotes mountain skills, safety, access and the protection of Scotland’s mountain landscapes. We are also the national governing body for indoor climbing and encourage young people into the sport through the ClimbScotland initiative. This is an opportunity to use your administrative and people skills in an organisation with a clear purpose and a strong connection to Scotland’s outdoor community.

You'll join a small, supportive team and have the freedom to bring creative ideas to life while contributing to Scotland’s climbing and hill-walking community and helping protect the mountain landscapes we all value.

Benefits include:

  • 35.5 days’ annual leave, increasing with service
  • Flexible and hybrid working, with a minimum of two days per week in our central Perth office
  • Workplace pension, with employer contributions matched up to 6%
  • Employee Assistance Programme
  • Access to skills training and development opportunities
  • Outdoor clothing and equipment
  • Cycle to Work scheme
