Welcome to ScotRock

Friday 17th April 2020, 4:24pm

This evening we’ll be launching ‘ScotRock’, a new series of podcasts by ClimbScotland development officers Calum McBain and Robert MacKenzie.

In the podcasts Calum and Robert will be taking an often irreverent but always informed look at the people and the issues that matter in Scotland’s mountains and climbing walls.

Separately and together, the duo travel the length and breadth of Scotland meeting some awesome climbers and hearing their tales, whether it’s the hard-won experience of veterans or the youthful exuberance of the up and coming generation. It’s these tales, and news of these people, that the boys will be sharing in their podcasts.

The first will go live at 7pm tonight, featuring an interview with Kevin Woods, who just before lockdown completed his winter round of all 282 Munros, in just 97 days.

In a later episode Calum sits down with Simon Yearsley, a self-described father, husband and alpinist. Simon is best known for his winter first ascents in Scotland, as well climbs in the Alps and greater ranges. However, a recent injury forced Simon to reinvent himself as a summer rock climber. We look at ‘the fall’, the dilemma of continuing winter climbing and Simon’s personal ethics around climbing.

Future interviewees include Mike Pescod, Hannah Francis, Sophie Moodie, Mick Tighe and Anna Wynne.
