Want to try speed climbing?

Thursday 28th September 2017, 3:21pm

There’s a great opportunity this month for anyone who wants to try their hand at speed climbing.

The only fully operational speed wall in the UK, at EICA Ratho, was used in the International World Cup on 23 and 24 September. Our very own Max Milne competed against the top speed climbers in the world and came 19th overall with a time of 9.14sec and was the highest placed British climber.

The routes, climbed slowly, are 6b+, but the world record speed for this 15m route is 5.48sec! Our current Scottish (and British) record is held by William Bosi at 8.45sec.

The wall is now available for climbers to have a go. And if you would like some help and coaching, the ClimbScotland Scottish Speed Development Squad is offering drop-in sessions run by Competitions Coordinator Scott Forsyth, with coaches Allen Bownes and Alexander Bosi.

Drop-in Sessions: every Sunday, 12 noon till 3pm. The sessions are free, although you do have to pay your wall entry, and don’t need to be booked in advance.
