New mountaineering traineeships for women announced

Friday 8th March 2019, 10:40am

On International Women's Day, we are thrilled to announce a new initiative that will support two women on their journey to becoming mountain leaders.

Forming a key part of Into The Mountain, and supported by Mountaineering Scotland, the Into The Mountain Traineeships will provide a package of training, support and mentoring to enable women (for clarity this includes cis women, trans women and intersex women) to develop their skills, confidence and futures in outdoor leadership.

These traineeships start to address the lack of women represented within mountaineering and outdoor sectors and have been enabled through the partnerships created by Into The Mountain.

Into The Mountain is a project by artist and choreographer Simone Kenyon and produced by the Scottish Sculpture Workshop. It will culminate this year in a performance journey for a live audience in the Cairngorm National Park. Further details on the traineeships will be announced later this month.

Sign up to the Into The Mountain newsletter to be the first to hear more.

Scottish Sculpture Workshop is a making facility set up in 1979 to support artists' learning, exchange and production. Its facilities, residencies, artist-led projects and international partnerships support artistic ambition on multiple levels and celebrate making in its plurality.
