Climbing wall seminar

Mountaineering Scotland’s Kevin Howett and Robert Mackenzie will be speaking at a one-day seminar being staged by the Association of British Climbing Walls (ABC) at EICA Ratho later this month.

Led by the ABC’s Training Committee, on 31st August, the seminar is a chance for climbing walls in Scotland and Northern England to get together and network or attend some useful workshops and presentations. Afterwards, Mountaineering Scotland will host a meeting of the Scottish Climbing Wall Network.

The day starts at 9.30am, with the first workshop at 10am. The cost includes morning coffee plus a soup and sandwich lunch. The workshops finish at 4pm but those who would like to stay and climb are welcome to do so.

Workshops will include one on competition route-setting by ClimbScotland Regional Development Officer Robert Mackenzie. There will also be sessions on crowdfunding and fundraising for climbing walls, HSE and accident investigations, bouldering (inductions, training, spotting and falling), and avoiding and solving problems (including auto belays.

Mountaineering Scotland Sport Development Officer Kevin Howett then rounds off the day with the Scottish Climbing Wall Network (SCWN) meeting from 4.30pm to 6.30pm.

The price for the day is £25 for ABC Members (Associate, Aspirant and Approved) and £30 for non-members (including Advised members).
