Alpine Ski Club joins Mountaineering Scotland

Friday 20th March 2020, 12:14pm

We are delighted to welcome The Alpine Ski Club as a member of Mountaineering Scotland.

The Alpine Ski Club is an active and friendly club of independent ski mountaineers. It was the first ski mountaineering club in Britain (founded by Arnold Lunn in 1908).

The objectives of the Club are to promote mountaineering on ski and to encourage good fellowship amongst ski mountaineers; to encourage mountaineering expeditions on ski throughout the world and to promote a better knowledge of the mountains in winter.

The ASC seeks to recruit enthusiastic ski mountaineers of competence and experience who have a continuing interest in independent ski mountaineering. The Club also welcomes aspirant members who wish to achieve this aim.

The ASC makes around two modest grants each year, open to people outside the Club, to either assist in improving the applicants ski mountaineering skills or to support worthy expeditions.    The club also maintains a set of specialized safety communication equipment from transceivers to PLBs and Garmin inReach for members to use with no hire fee.

There is an annual dinner and two lectures each year, as well as meets in the UK and abroad.
