Where to climb indoors

There are a great many indoor climbing walls around Scotland, mainly grouped around the major towns and cities, but with a growing presence in smaller communities. The walls listed here are all members of the Scottish Climbing Wall Network, a partnership between Mountaineering Scotland and the main climbing walls in Scotland to promote participation at all levels and increase participation as part of a more active lifestyle - both for children and as a life-long activity.

Ice Factor

Whether you’re a complete beginner, or  looking to push your grade, Ice Factor has a range of routes, grades and challenges to suit. There's also a bouldering room and, of course, the ice wall.

Glasgow Climbing Centre

Glasgow Climbing Centre offers a mix of climbing styles, from slabs and vertical walls to steep overhangs, and from bouldering to 16-metre routes. Something for all abilities.

McLaren Leisure Centre

The McLaren Community Leisure Centre in Callander houses a climbing wall which caters to experienced and beginner climbers, with instructors on hand.

Avertical World

In the centre of Dundee, near the universities, Avertical World offers top- roping, leading and bouldering, with courses available.

Inverness Leisure

Boasting the largest indoor rock climbing facility in the Highlands, people of all abilities can try top roping, leading and bouldering, with some routes offering the chance to place your own gear.

Glenmore Lodge

At the foot of Cairngorm, Glenmore Lodge is the national outdoor training centre. Its climbing wall is principally for course students but available for public use at other times.

EICA:Ratho

Edinburgh International Climbing Arena is Europe's largest indoor climbing arena, with hundreds of routes and bouldering facilities to cater for all abilities.

Alien Rock

Alien Rock in Edinburgh was Scotland's first dedicated indoor climbing centre and caters for all ages and abilities at two facilities: alien one and alien bloc (which specialising in bouldering).

Transition Extreme

Transition Extreme in Aberdeen is recognised as a regional centre of excellence and open to all. Classes are available for all ages and abilities as well as quality routes for experienced climbers.

The Peak

The Peak, at Stirling Sports Village, has an 11-metre climbing wall, open to members and pay-as-you-go customers, with opportunities for all ages and abilities.

The Pleasance

The Pleasance Climbing Wall is part of Edinburgh University's Centre for Sport and Exercise. Comprising  a climbing wall and a bouldering area, it is open to members, guests, university students and staff.

Rock Face

The Rock Face indoor climbing wall at Carnegie Leisure Centre in Dunfermline has been designed to cater for all ages and abilities, with a wide range of bouldering routes. Some classes are available.


Perth College Climbing Centre

Designed for new and experienced climbers, as well as performance climbing athletes. Climbers will be faced with a feast of unusual and striking features inspired by iconic Scottish rock climbing venues.


Three Wise Monkeys

Three Wise Monkeys in Fort William has a roped climbing wall and a bouldering wall with various coaching and courses on offer along with other facilities.


TCA Newsroom

A huge bouldering centre with high walls, plenty of floor space, regularly changing routes and a bunch of training equipment and weekly events. It also has a cafe area and shop, and is also the perfect place for youngsters to learn to climb or throw a birthday party. 



TCA Prop Store

The Prop Store promises to deliver the climbing experience to Glasgow North with contemporary bouldering walls and a number of top-rope and auto-belay lines. There will also be a full training mezzanine and a cafe.
